“WERE THERE EVER “GOOD OLD DAYS”…?

“WERE THERE EVER “GOOD OLD DAYS”…?

YES… Actually, “I Am The Good Old Days!” Life then was political; but appeared to work on behalf of the American People. It was women’s voices across clotheslines. Life was onerous work intended to help future generations. Family life included a belief in God that we each venerated without scrutiny. Our teachers knew our parents and endorsed an education for each child in their care. Bullies existed, but were reigned-in by parent-to-parent solutions. We worked (for pay) at any age and did so, not for us, but for the family. No one locked their doors; we had so little to steal (I guess)? We stood and honored the Flag of the United States of America everywhere because we thought it honored the soldiers and our fathers who never returned from war. And, yes, we knew that life would change.

But, I never imagined a social media that opened a window onto the world of all that is human; at least to those of us still free to utilize it. This media requires us to see/hear everyone’s slant and thus we are left to find our own truth between the chatter. Neighbor-to-neighbor we are still United; for survival sake. If this were only true of our elected politicians who want to win; even at the expense of continued existence of the United States of America.

Yet, I never expected that my AMERICAN FREEDOMS would begin to crumble; in lesser, unreported, underground eruptions. My only solace: I did, once, live in the Good Old Days and so I know a freedom when I see one!

“IT’S SUNDAY AND…”

In the heart of myself I ask this question: “Where is my Church of Place?

The God in each of us speaks many languages, holds many traditions and hears many voices that call to Him in their joy and sorrow. There are and always have been wars fought in the name of ideology. Yet, ne’er a whisper it was ever about God! So, I ask myself: “Now why is that?”

The question that rises immediately from the impossible to explain: “Why would we fight against the THAT that is US?”

Whatever and wherever Church of Place is for each of us, let us pray that God’s Prayers will always cover the whole of mankind.

FALL FROM GRACE

“FALL FROM GRACE” is a well-known term used to define something we really cannot articulate in any other way. The definition for Fall: collapse (meaning to come to nothing). The definition for Grace: elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion or action. There is an extensive litany on the expression: To Fall From Grace that I needn’t repeat here.

What I do want to say is that the underpinning of what I thought was the United States and the world for that matter, has FALLEN FROM GRACE. The fall continues to come in many forms: despots being toppled; the interconnectedness of monetary systems exposed to their core; self-indulgence at the expense of a future for our children and grandchildren; centuries of abuse of women and children; loathing because we honor God in different ways; hidden secrets exposed inside religious and secular institutions; the destruction of peoples in poverty; the destruction of America’s middleclass; politicians (worldwide) who forgot or never cared to represent the peoples who elected them; polarization of a singular way of thinking that ignores the median of life, and very disturbing to me, the American Congress I find more interested in winning than serving—not re-election…power!

All of these issues are at the core of the heart of the peoples of the world and yet it seems our voices have Fallen From Grace.

I Have Questions

Lately, whether I read it, hear it or sense it, questions pop into my mind.

I know to stop this phenomenon I must write my questions down. Here they are:

  •  History illustrates that conflicts over religious belief wound the very premise of what is taught inside its moral value. Why is that? P.S. Has there ever been a war over God?
  • When did we start naming foreigners Aliens instead of immigrants? Alien to what?
  • Those despots who use a vulnerable society to carry out their lunacy are heroic for a time. But who catches on first to its downfall: the lunatic or the peoples?
  • When a mastermind(s) of mass killings (under any guise) reach local to international courts of law they are qualified for an insanity defense. But I ask you, what are their sufferers qualified for?
  • I think I can safely confirm that evil is authentic; the news media in all its forms confirms this to me. Should we believe this is what our world has become? What about when a child smiles?
  • I marvel at the education I received, but that was long ago when integrity was the word of the day. I’ve read for years how IT is improving, and measuring the trillions we’ve thrown at it and the names we’ve given it, surely… Is it bureaucratic red tape or freethinking or tolerance for inaction or laissez-faire that redouble drop-out rates?
  • Playgrounds! I read recently they are too safe for our children and preventing them from experiencing life’s cuts and bruises. Is it because our society feels so insecure that we insulate our children against every aspect of it?
  • We have an aging society, but my personal harangue on this matter is inconsequential. What is of consequence is the manner in which we are cloaked: aged, seniors, baby boomers; disadvantaged elderly, and users of Medicare and Social Security. This mini-inventory begs the question: Are Older Americans nothing more than a burden on society? Before you answer, remember we too trusted our government to manage the monies we contributed for our future.
  • “Balance The Budget!” Okay, here are two questions: “Do you, the individual, balance your budget? Should our government be held to the same high standard? I would just state for the record that money does NOT grow on trees around my home and I certainly am not qualified to borrow from China.
  • Okay, so those who represent us in Washington debate (a good thing really) about raising or not raising taxes. My only, and last question, is: Do you know anyone who pays taxes without a job?
